The Instituto de Preservação e Defesa de Felídeos da Fauna Silvestre do Brasil em Processo de Extinção (NEX) is a non-governmental organization that is caring for native Brazilian jaguars and pumas that were rescued from the wild and/or animal trafficking. They are running a sanctuary near Corumbá, located about 80 km from Brasilia and it is open for visitors on weekends. NEX was founded in 2001 with the aim to create a safe sanctuary for jaguars and pumas that were injured in the wild and rescued from animal trafficking. As a non-governmental organization it relies solely on donations from the public and the generosity from the weekend visitors. Now a visit to the refuge is not like you are visiting a zoo. It starts at 9:30 with a healthy breakfast, after that you will learn about the individual history of each jaguar and puma as well as a tour through the sanctuary. You will learn about the work involved in keeping these magnificent animals in a natural habitat as much as possible. Lunch is served at a waterfall nearby and you can have a swim as well. In the afternoon you will be part of the feeding of the jaguars and pumas and all is capped off with afternoon coffee. The fee for the day is R$200 per person (Children under 10 R$100) and includes all activities and meals. And all profits will be spent on the upkeep of the sanctuary and feeding the animals. So you will not only have a unforgettable day with these magnificent creatures, but you will also support this great organization so it can operate for years to come. The Unified Health System (SUS) created an identification card for Brazilian citizens and residents of the country. The idea of the SUS card is to organize patients so that they can use the public health system. This card contains all the dates and places where the patient received care, which services were provided, by which professional and which procedures were performed. The idea of the card is to organize and systematize the service provided, since it generates a national identification number that facilitates access to the service network. Arabic food and bar – Asa Sul - Águas Claras Libanus has more than 30 years and it serves a really good Lebanese cuisine with a touch of Brazil to some of the dishes. It’s a restaurant as well as a bar so, nothing fancy. Just the tradicional “quadra” from plano piloto corner with good food. Its crowded, usually very crowded, so it is for times of seen people mood, specially from happy hour on. Prices are very fair. Beer is always cold (regular Brazilian labels only), service usually has quality since a lot of the waiters are there for a very long time. For food I would recommend any of the “combinados árabes” a mix of arabic specialities, or my favourite: File a Tropical, pieces of mignon mixed with melted cheese inside a carved pineapple, it also comes with fries, arroz á grega (pilaf) and farofa. Take notice that all meals are served voluptuously. It’s a good place for a happy hour in Asa Sul. PS. There is also a new unit in Águas Claras. This place is a happy environment in town. There are 3 units, Asa Norte, Sul and Terraço Shopping at Sudoeste. Asa Sul is the original one and the one I recommend. The food is really good, drinks out of tequila are a must. I personally love the chilli deep with margaritas. There are different spice burger types all very good. The environment is collorful and takes you back to a Mexican villa atmosphere. Buffet for lunch and menu at night.
