Every city has a Zoo, and so does Brasilia. It opened in 1957, during the construction of Brasilia and covers nearly 140 hectares. It is located near the neighborhood of Candangolândia at the end of Asa Sul.

The Zoo is open from Thursday to Sunday between 8:30 and 17:00 and the admission is $5 reais during the week and $10 reais on weekends.

Currently the Zoo has over 800 animals and 185 different animal species and it a favorite place for children. The Zoo also hosts the Museu de Ciencias Naturais (Natural Sciences Museum), where visitors can take tours and learn about the different Brazilian biomes.

You can also bring your picnic blanket along and go hiking.
