SIA stands for Setor de Indústria e Abastecimento, which roughly translates as the “Industry and Supply Sector”. It is one of Brasília’s main commercial districts, bringing together warehouses, wholesalers, workshops and businesses that help keep the capital running.
For newcomers, SIA is a useful area to know when furnishing a home, planning renovations or looking for specialist products and services. You can find businesses selling building materials, furniture, tools, electrical equipment and automotive supplies. Many cater to professional customers, but there are also shops serving the general public.
The area has a different feel from the residential neighbourhoods of Asa Norte and Asa Sul. Expect large commercial premises, broad roads and plenty of delivery traffic. Businesses can be spread out, so it helps to check the exact address before leaving and plan your visit by car or ride-hailing service.
Although SIA is primarily a place to work and shop, it also offers reasons to visit for leisure. Hop Capital Beer, for example, brings a brewery and brewpub into this commercial setting.
SIA may not feature prominently on a typical sightseeing itinerary, but for anyone settling into Brasília, it is a practical part of the city worth getting to know.
