One of the things I appreciate about Brasília is finding local initiatives that bring people together. Embaixinhos is a lovely example, and a group I would recommend families take a look at.
Created by cyclist, cultural producer and physical education teacher Tatiana dos Anjos, this volunteer project introduces children aged 2 to 12 to cycling through games, exercises and outdoor activities. Its regular gatherings are free and generally take place every two weeks in Brasília’s parks and public spaces, like the Embaixadas Bike Parque, helping children develop balance, coordination and confidence on a bicycle.
What appeals to me is the combination of exercise and community. Learning to ride a bicycle is a wonderful childhood milestone, but having an activity that also brings families together makes the idea even more worthwhile. The shared breakfast, with participants contributing something to the table, is a particularly nice touch.
For newcomers to Brasília, I think groups like this deserve attention.
Finding your feet in a new city involves more than sorting out housing and discovering the supermarkets. It also means finding opportunities to meet people and become part of local life. A family activity built around bicycles offers a good starting point.
My recommendation: if you have young children and are looking for an outdoor activity with a community focus, put Embaixinhos on your list. It is an initiative worth exploring, and supporting.
Check the Embaixinhos website for upcoming locations and registration details before attending.
