Tucked away in Asa Norte, Sebinho is much more than just a secondhand bookstore. Over the years it has become one of those places in Brasília where people seem to naturally drift toward when they want to slow down for a while, browse books, have a coffee, and disappear from the outside world for a few hours.

The bookstore spreads across two floors packed with thousands of used books covering almost every subject imaginable, novels, history, philosophy, politics, religion, medicine, university textbooks, comics, and plenty of things you were not planning to buy but somehow end up carrying home anyway. 😄

For foreigners living in Brasília, one of the nice surprises is that Sebinho usually has a decent selection of books in English, French, German, and Spanish as well, although the stock changes constantly depending on what people sell or trade in.

The café attached to the bookstore is probably one of the reasons people become so attached to the place. It has a relaxed atmosphere where customers can sit for hours reading books straight from the shelves before deciding whether to buy them or not. The menu is broad, the environment is welcoming, and there always seems to be a mix of students, artists, intellectuals, expats, musicians, and people simply escaping Brasília’s dry afternoons.

On certain evenings there are book launches, cultural events, poetry readings, and live music, which gives the whole place a very distinctive alternative and creative energy that is becoming harder to find these days.

Sebinho feels less like a business and more like one of Brasília’s unofficial living rooms for book lovers.
