It is also said that here you can buy the freshest seafood and fishes from all over Brazil, including piranhas and other types from the Amazon. If you are a food lover you have to go there and check it out. Casa de Dolce e Queijos has also a shop here and they are always worth a visit. And yeah, they sell cloths too, but that is catering more to the Brazilian style. When I was brand-new to Brasilia I did a group tour of Brasilia. This is a really great tour - you'll learn not only the layout of the city and the history of why it's been done that way, but also get to see all the big monuments and best architecture. I would really recommend this tour if you have family or friends visiting. You'll learn so much about the city, and your guests will feel like they actually know the city. I recommend this product. If theu should reopen, we will update you. If you live in Lago Norte, or you want a bit of a drive, you must have heard of the fantastic bakery and coffeeshop Padóca. Located in CA 7 in Lago Norte, it opened its doors in July 2021 and was an instant hit with the locals. The brains behind the coffeeshop are Catia Lopes and Camila Marconi, who wanted to open a community coffee shop where locals can meet, remote work and have a healthy choice of food. And they are environmentally friendly, so you will not find any plastic utensils or packaging. All products are produced on the premises with fresh ingrediencies, and you can watch the bakers through a glass window working. The corner shop has a large veranda with tables, chairs, a sofa and even a swing. The products on offer are typical for a bakery, like different breads, croissants, cakes, etc. And for breakfast and lunch you can order all sorts of dishes from the menu that are very tasty. Try the guacamole toast with egg on top. And the coffee is sensational. And to top it all off, the prices are very reasonable. For example, if you order a guacamole toast with egg, a orange juice and a cappuccino it will set you back under R$40. Padóca is open 7 days a week and on Saturday and Sundays, as well as on public holidays, they offer a breakfast buffet. Restaurante Braseiro is located in Vila Planalto and has indoor as well as outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is especially pleasant with seating under trees and a small children playground, making it ideal for families. In the evening it can be a romantic spot for a date. The food ranges from Brazilian BBQ, food from around Brazil as well as pizzas and pastas. The quality of the food is consistently good, the service fast and efficient and the prices are reasonable. Most evenings and on the weekend, they will have live Brazilian music to entertain you. The only downside are the sometimes noisy cars that pass by. Trattoria Da Rosario Document Document Document Document Lago Sul $$ Italian Tuesday to Sunday Portuguese Dine in, Takeaway, Delivery < Search All Button Restaurant review by Milan Sime Martinic in the B4D Magazin If you are the type to enjoy the beauty and magnificent atmosphere of a Roman plaza filled with outdoor tables of wonderful restaurants, your first glance toward Trattoria da Rosario on Brasilia's south side will put a smile on your face and visions of sipping expresso and wine all afternoon. A sign says "Piazza Navona" over the figure of one of the allegorical statues in Rome's beautifully fountained and most charming square, the iconic Piazza Navona itself. Immediately past it, an outdoor veranda is lined with tableclothed tables and staff that pays attention to you as you come close, ready to accommodate you where you please. You are entering Trattoria da Rosario, one of Brasilia's longtime powerplaces as much for the clientele it attracts as for the powerful pack of impeccable Italian dishes as varied as the food-loving country itself. Multi-million-dollar deals and political alliances are said to be regularly forged over its tables, power players from all corners of Brazil are often spotted commanding a table over wine and San Pellegrino. Italian tradition and flavors rule the ambiance, and the menu has plenty to seduce you from chef Rosario's Napolitan roots as from his well-developed culinary creations inspired by the diverse regions and islands of the peninsula. There is a subtle excellence in the air. The hosts and waiters know their stuff. It is evident that they all know exactly what they’re doing. It is the sort of place where Chef Rosário Tessier can be seen personally seeing that his clients are satisfied. The menu itself is more sophisticated and exquisitely elaborated than in an old-school trattoria. Offerings range from appetizers to pastas, risottos, meats, game, seafood, and desserts, all with tangibly fresh ingredients. You would be forgiven for thinking you had just been transported to the Vesuvius apron and were suddenly going the wrong way down its medieval labyrinth of one-way streets and narrow alleys, past wrought-iron balconies, and the smell of pride in Neapolitan food and its glory on lunch tables. It is the flavor of Italian gastronomy at its best in Brazil; it is unmistakable, and in a short time it is on your fork and the plate in front of you. The menu choices are a generous Italian feast: To start, Appetizer options include: Antipasto Italia- Parma ham, Italian mortadella, cheese Bel Paese, Grana Padano cheese and black olives; Bruschette al Pomodoro- Freshly baked toasted bread with Italian San Marzano tomato sauce, basil, mozzarella and Grana Padano; a Carpaccio di Carne con Carciofini Carpaccio of beef with mustard sauce, artichoke blades and Grana Padano; an Insalata del Golfo with mixed green leaves salad with shrimp to herb sauce, squid and octopus; a Chef's Salad which was delicious with a mustard-and-herbs dressing. There are more choices, but you will have to check those out when you visit. Pasta choices include variously dressed fettuccines, linguines, pennes, raviolis, gnocchis, and spaghettis. My favorites are those with prawns and gorgonzola, but you can also get the classics alla carbonara, Bolognese, Vesuvio, and puttanesca. All 3 ofd its gnocchi offerings are straight out of some of the best Italian kitchens in flavor, though I did find the gnocchi with spinach and gorgonzola too heavy on the oils as was the case with the risottos. The Saltimboca alla Romana was an exquisitely prepared filet mignon with Parma ham and sage, and a subtle Marsala wine sauce with fettuccine Alfredo; the Filetto Palio di Siena was delectable in an exotic Madeira sauce and red wine. It was served with cheese risotto, Grana Padano, and sun-dried tomatoes; and the Agnello Controfiletto was a perfectly cooked boneless, crusted loin of lamb in the Marsala wine sauce with reduced balsamic vinegar. It was served with a hearty Venetian black risotto, a classic with bountiful squid providing the moody ink that gives the dish its color. There are at least a half-a-dozen other fish dishes I have yet to try. There is a suitable selection of "sobremesas" which include Creme Brule, and a Panna cotta con Crema di Frutti di Bosco, served with a red-fruit coulis. Of course, there is Tiramisu, but I enjoyed most a new addition to its menu, a green apple tart on a crisp cinnamon mille-feuille and served with a smooth vanilla ice cream. There were no Vespas buzzing around and no layers of posters over graffiti and grime nearby, but in leaving the experience is notable for its authentic flavors, the elegant dishes, the upbeat staff with hints of that legendary Italian charm, and the feeling that you have just eaten at one of the best restaurants in Brasilia, that you have been served impeccable Italian classics delivered con brio. Trattoria da Rosario is located at SHIS QI17 Bl.H Lj.215, South Lake in Fashion Park and is open for lunch and dinner from noon till midnight Tuesday through Saturday closing for an hour in the afternoon, and Sunday from noon till 5 pm. To say he is a car nut is an understatement. He is servicing and repairing my imported Hyundai Tucson BJ 2006 4WD Diesel since I arrived here 6 years ago, and he is doing a tremendous job. Since the car is imported it is sometimes difficult to find the right parts. And many car owners that have imported cars can tell you long stories about finding parts here in Brazil. Figueredo is a detective in finding the right replacement parts and if he does not find them here in Brazil, he has contacts in Argentina that will find it for him and arrange it to be shipped to Brasilia. And he will not rest until your car is running 100%. Besides repair jobs they are also providing normal services and diagnostic checks. Their work is first class and the prices very reasonable. Besides me I know several other expats that go there for normal services and repair jobs so I highly recommend Clinica do Carro." It is an obelisk located on the Morro do Centenário, 9 km from Planaltina, about 40 km north of the center of Brasilia. It was built upon a decree by President Epitácio Pessoa to commemorate the centenary of the Independence of Brazil, on September 7, 1922. At that time, despite the change of capital into the interior already required by the Constitution, there was no concrete plan for the construction of Brasilia. The president determined that the obelisk should be within the limits of the "Cruls Rectangle", demarcated at the end of the 19th century. The Foundation Stone is the symbol of a city that was still an idea at that time, when nobody had an idea that it would really be erected 38 years later by Juscelineo Kubitschek, within the Cruls Rectangle. The owner, Eduardo Nobre, spent many years in California to learn about wines, so it is no surprise that the wine cellar is stocked with a fantastic selection of wines. The staff is very friendly and more than helpful recommending a wine. Most of the staff speaks very good English, so for non-Portuguese speakers that is an added bonus. The food is spectacular and, as the name suggest, is mainly pork. But what a treat. The seating is outside in a wonderful atmosphere so that one does not think that they are in Brasilia, but maybe in Italy or France. The prices will not send you broke and, considering the experience you will have, rather cheap. Clube IVV Swinebar does not accept any reservations and works on a first come, first served policy. So if you want to get a table without waiting a long time you had better come early, especially if you have a big group. After 19:30 it is most likely that you will have to wait for a table. It is part of the worldwide AEFE network (Agence pour l'enseignement français à l'étranger) and follows the French national education curriculum. Belonging to this global network allows children to be educated from kindergarten to the baccalaureate, from one school to another and from one country to another. In addition to French, Portuguese, English and Spanish are taught. The school welcomes students from kindergarten to high school. Unlike most Brazilian schools, the school year starts at the end of August and ends at the end of June as in North America or Europe. Students start school at 7.45am. Primary school students finish at 2.50 pm and secondary school students have classes until the end of the day (maximum 6 pm depending on the level). Ricardo, the owner, is a very helpful guy and will do everything to help you. They restore everything that needs upholstery, and they have a vast selection of different materials and patterns. And if you have one of these faded umbrellas in your backyard they will come to your house and give you a quote to clean and dye it or replace the whole fabric. They also do all the work to remove the cover and put it back on. The prices are very reasonable, the turnaround time quick and the work is very professional. I would really recommend this tour if you have family or friends visiting. You'll learn so much about the city, and your guests will feel like they actually know the city. I recommend this product. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and they are also famous for their afternoon tea, which is served from 15:00 to 18:30. One of the favorite dishes are the fish and chips and their selection of cakes and pastry is very good. The service can be a bit slow at times and it can be expensive, but the atmosphere makes it worth it. When visiting the Living Museum of Candanga Memory, we can feel like we are on a journey through time. The settings, objects, and photos present at the site commemorate the beginning of the Brazilian capital, a city created from the dream of Juscelino Kubitschek. And it's because of JK that the history of the space becomes even more interesting. Before becoming a museum, the site housed the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira Hospital (HJKO), a space created to meet the demand in the Federal District, not only for injured workers in the construction, but also for other services, such as childbirth and outpatient care for children and homemakers. It was a complex of 23 wooden buildings that remained a hospital and support complex until 1974, when the District Hospital (now Hospital de Base) was inaugurated. The space remained standing, and in 1985, by decree 9,036, the Government of the Federal District established the landmarking of the house complex, allowing the restoration process of the space. On April 26, 1990, the site was reopened and inaugurated under the name of the Living Museum of Candanga Memory (MVMC). Founded in 1979 ABRA is the biggest model club in Brasilia and the area is open from 7:00 to 19:00, 7 days a week. But most of the action you see on the weekends with dozens of airplanes starting and landing, drones zipping overhead and the noise of the model petrol cars racing on the racetrack. Entry is free to either participate or just coming along to watch the action. The model airplane runway staging area is covered so you are protected from the weather. And the racetrack has a nice viewing area. Espaço Aroeira Document Document Document Document Lago Norte Free Monday to Saturday Portuguese, English, French Restaurants/Coffee Shops < Search All Button You would be forgiven for not knowing about one of the most charming places in Brasilia— Espaço Aroeira, as you come into the Setor de Habitações Individuais Norte, SHIN, plant nurseries to your right, at the beginning of Lago Norte. In fact, I have been going to the plants stores nearly every two months for at least 5 years and did not know it was there. Espaço Aroeira is located at the back of all the nursery stores. I set foot in it for the first time recently, and wow. At the entry to this little oasis is by the outdoor seating from Café Auoreira. It is a beautiful little café that has a limited menu, but what they serve is excellent and very inexpensive. In their outdoor seating area, you are surrounded by beautiful plants and a little pond (with a warning sign that you might get an electrical shock if you enter the pond). About 30 meters from the entry, there is a charming little alley with several colorful shops selling everything from artisan bread, organic cosmetic products, fashions, arts, crafts, and house decorations. The owner of the bakery Revoluções Pães Artesanais, is happy to speak in French or English to you; he makes his products in a woodfired oven that gives his bread a rustic taste. A bit further down the alley there are several big, covered spaces that are used for things like yoga sessions, arts and crafts courses, and other activities. One of the more unique workshops is offered by Together Cafés Especiais where you learn the art of roasting and preparing coffee. At the end of the alley, delightfully camouflaged by the trees and the plants is the restaurant Cozinhas da Terra. Surrounded by huge trees and a wall of green plants is a big outdoor seating area that a German biergarten. The cuisine is Brazilian, and they serve dishes from all corners of the country. It looks delicious and it is rather affordable, but make sure you make a booking as this place is quite popular. In all, it is a wonderful place to visit, a place where you can get lost in nature and the setting and the shops and the food, and easily make an afternoon of it. TIP: When leaving the nursery area to go back to Brasilia by car, DO NOT get on the main street. If you do, you have a long way to get back into Brasilia. Instead use the dirt road right at the end of the nurseries and follow it until you hit the sealed road that gets you back into Brasilia. The American School of Brasilia/Escola Americana de Brasilia Document Document Document Document Asa Sul $$$$$ Monday to Friday Portuguese, English After School Care Available, Onsite Sport Facilities, Off Road Parking, Playgrounds < Search All Button The American School of Brasilia/Escola Americana de Brasilia (known as “EAB” in both English and Portuguese) is located at SGAS 605 in Asa Sul. The student population is approximately 60% Brazilian, 20% American and 20% other Internationals. Each classroom is balanced as much as possible to have an equal mix between the genders and different nationalities. Main classroom instruction is all in English. Students separate into two groups for Portuguese classes, with native speakers attending Portuguese language and history classes geared towards attaining the Brazilian diploma, while the non-native speakers attend PLL (Portuguese Language Learners) classes. The high school offers Brazilian, International and IB diploma programs for high school students. The typical school day runs from 8:00-3:00 (with a 9:00 start on Wednesdays). For a school of its small size, EAB offers a wide range of both curricular and extracurricular activities. Elementary school students have the option of attending after-school activities from 3:00-4:00, including jujitsu, yoga, ballet, cheerleading, Spanish, etc. Middle- and high-school students can choose from sports such as basketball or the music, arts or theatre programs. The school also plans celebrations for the students for major Brazilian holidays, such as Independence Day and Festa Junina, and coordinates with the U.S. Embassy and the FSP (Family-School Partnership organization - similar to a PTO/PTA) to plan U.S. holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving. For American families working at the embassy, the location is very convenient to the embassy as well as to most of the embassy’s housing in both Lago Sul and the Plano Piloto (Asa Norte, Asa Sul and Sudoeste). The U.S. embassy provides a shuttle that can drop the students off either at home or (during non-covid times) at the embassy, where many of the kids play on the embassy playground or do homework until their parents get off work. EAB also offers a pre-school program (K3 and K4). Many of the local students attend EAB K3 through Grade 12, however, many American and International parents choose a different alternative for those two years (waiting until K5 to enroll their children at EAB) since they aren’t typically covered by embassy tuition programs, and the cost is quite expensive compared to local options.
