La Palma is one of those places in Brasília that people usually discover by accident and then suddenly find themselves returning to far more often than originally planned.
At first glance it looks like a relatively small gourmet supermarket, but once you start walking through the aisles you quickly realize the place is packed with products that are surprisingly difficult to find elsewhere in Brasília. They currently have stores in both Asa Norte and Asa Sul, which makes life a bit easier depending on which side of town you live on.
The fresh produce section is especially interesting because many of the fruits and vegetables come directly from the owner’s farm. It is also one of the better places in the city to hunt for more unusual ingredients, including Asian vegetables and herbs that are often impossible to find in regular supermarkets.
People who enjoy cooking will probably lose all sense of financial responsibility in the spice section. 😄 They have one of the largest spice selections in Brasília, plus specialty ingredients ranging from different flours and imported pasta to duck, wild boar, truffles, vanilla, escargot, and other things that make you suddenly feel like opening a restaurant despite barely managing toast at home.
That said, some products are definitely on the expensive side compared to larger specialty stores like Casa de Doces e Queijos. But for many people, the convenience and the ability to find rare ingredients in one place makes it worth it.
Honestly, La Palma is one of those dangerous supermarkets where you walk in needing one ingredient and somehow leave with six bags, exotic spices, and an unrealistic plan to cook something “simple” that takes four hours.
