Egon’s Supermercado Document Document Document Document BR 251 km 06 PAD-DF Brasília- DF $$ +55 61 98328-1750 7 Days a Week Portugese Salamis, Special Cut Meats, Organic, Spices, Herbs < Search All Button Received via Submit Review: Egon’s Supermercado is located 55 kilometres from the center of Brasília, and while many would think that this is a long way to go shopping, this place is well worth it. Before you reach the little town where Egon’s is located, you drive through a rural area that is dominated by corn and soy fields and, depending on the season, sunflower fields that are an amazing sight when they are in full flower. The area was set up by the founders of Brasília to be an agricultural area by the Projeto de Assentamento Dirigido do Distrito Federal (PAD-DF) and it attracted people from all over Brazil to work on the land. Egon Prediger, a son of parents with German heritage, arrived here in the 1980 from a German settlement in Rio Grande do Sul to work on the soybean crops. But he soon realised that there was a need for a restaurant to feed the workers, so he and his wife set up one up. They also realised that a supermarket was needed to serve the local population with essential items like meat, vegetables, agricultural goods, and everyday items. Egon’s Supermercado was born. It has since grown from a 400m2 shop to nearly 2000m2 today. The supermarket is owned and operated by the Prediger family. When you enter the store it looks like every small country supermarket, but extremely clean and airy. You see all the goods for sale like in every other country store, from cowboy hats, work boots, cachaça, pet food, vegetables, etc. But then you find row after row of herbs and spices from the brand Familia Prediger. And I mean herbs and spices that you will rarely find in Brasília. Egon’s is famous for its charcuterie, producing various salamis, as well as fresh and smoked sausages. The salami is simply divine. The butchery section contains a huge selection of various cuts of beef, pork, and lamb. You can also find sausages like black and white blood sausages, Frankfurters, Kraków’s, smoked hams, as well as pickled vegetables in all sizes. During our visit Jandir Prediger mentioned that all the fresh vegetables and meats are organic and sourced from the surrounding area. The herbs and spices are also organic, as well as all the ingredients for the salamis. To top it all off, the prices are much lower compared to Brasilia. You will be surprised by the quality of the products, and what they cost you. There is a restaurant, called Pad Bier Restaurante, on the other side of the street which has a small beer garden attached. Food is per kilo with a choice from a buffet. Again, the quality and pricing is fantastic. On weekends, especially Saturdays, it is a popular hangout for motorcycle riders from Brasilia. All in all, a great experience; a great drive through farmlands, top quality meats and herbs, and a great restaurant. Definitely worth the drive. This is a really great tour - you'll learn not only the layout of the city and the history of why it's been done that way, but also get to see all the big monuments and best architecture. I would really recommend this tour if you have family or friends visiting. You'll learn so much about the city, and your guests will feel like they actually know the city. I recommend this product. Sara has been teaching my two girls (13 and 14) for the past two years. Sara is a native French speaker who has a master's in teaching French as a foreign language (with a specialisation in teaching children). My girls had to learn enough French in 6 months to enter a new school where French would be their second language. Sara worked with the girls for 6 months and gave them a solid base, which made them feel confident when they arrived at the new school. After we moved to Brussels, the girls had the opportunity to change to a local teacher, but they asked to keep their online classes with Sara, which shows how she can easily create a connection with her students. In our case, she understands our girls' needs and likes. Classes have different themes and are focused on conversation, while also highlighting grammar and new vocabulary. She can combine different elements and activities according to each student's preferences and needs. Her private tutoring has been on point at helping our girls to do well in French subjects in school and to be able to communicate with other students at school. We worked with other French teachers before (a private teacher and schoolteachers), but Sara has been far more efficient at delivering content, in my experience. She has an accessible and flexible approach to teaching, which I believe would suit a range of different student profiles. Besides French, she also speaks English and Portuguese. We left Brasilia last July, but our last family member - our cat - had to stay back and await transport routes and medical processes and a few covid related delays. He is finally back with us and on his way to his new home in England. I just wanted to say that we had a very good experience using Transcontrol for pet transportation services. Flying a cat into the UK was very complex and they helped us work out all our best options. Their fees were reasonable (it’s all very expensive, but most of the cost comes from the airline not the pet transportation service). For us it worked out best to fly our cat to Brussels. And we drove from the UK to collect him. Bare in mind that local airports may impose additional fees which will be payable upon collection of your pet. For example, we paid €170 at Brussels airport to release our cat from the handlers. If anyone needs any advice, or tips, do not hesitate to message me (I will depart the group now). This is a really great tour - you'll learn not only the layout of the city and the history of why it's been done that way, but also get to see all the big monuments and best architecture. I would really recommend this tour if you have family or friends visiting. You'll learn so much about the city, and your guests will feel like they actually know the city. I recommend this product. This is a surprise as “the winning architect Lúcio Costa declared that the new city must be orderly and efficient, but also a city of vitality and charm, conducive to reverie and intellectual speculation, capable of becoming not only the seat of Government, the administrative headquarters of the nation, but also a center of culture which will attract to it the finest and most perceptive intellects in the country.” Unfortunately, the museums never quite materialized the way Costa hoped. One of the few museums that is worth visiting is the Banco Central Museum in the heart of Brasilia. The museum has two parts. One that is dealing with the history of the monetary development, consistent of banknotes and coins from Brazil and around the world, medals, how money is made as well as how financial transaction were performed in the old world. The other part is an art collection with over 550 exhibits, ranging from paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures from mainly Brazilian artists. Another cool exhibit in the museum is about gold, where you can find everything from gold nuggets and bars to the largest gold nugget so far found in Brazil, weighing 60.8 kg. Entry to the museum is free and you only must present an identification with a photo. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. She will make a custom cake with any theme that you want - you can send a picture of one you would like to copy, or a sketch, or even just some photos and ideas and she will put together an idea for you. For us this was really great because my son chose a couple of non-standard themes (ninja cats one year and cactuses the next year - I've put some pictures below), but she can also do the normal superhero or Disney characters. You can choose from traditional Brazilian cakes with all the nuts and fillings or do a simpler American-style cake with just cake and frosting. Pre-pandemic you could visit the shop and sit down with an associate to discuss all the options; now they are doing it all on WhatsApp, but the result is just as good. You can also visit the shop just to have a cup of coffee and a pastry if you are in the neighborhood. She also makes a few dozen(!) varieties of brigadeiros you can put in the guests' treat bags. The cake prices are a little more expensive than at a standard bakery, but for us the cost was worth it, both for the level of service and the overall quality of the product. It really helped make our son's birthdays special. Literally, a grape emporium house, but it is so much more. Fronted by a “lojinha” in a house-like structure, it is a unique general store selling everything from an unrepentantly pulpy and strong grape juice which you can buy fresh or frozen to take home, to bottle-aged wine, to throwback trinkets, cured meats, vintage candy, and pickled foods you haven't seen in decades along with artisanal and colonial foods. There are also homemade grape-based breads, myriad skins, and some of the best churrasco in Brasilia, at considerably reasonable prices served on tables on the wraparound porch. If you are lucky, you will sit by the grill and get a chance to chat with the owner and chief churrasquero. The high quality and good prices are the work of the gaucho owners of the 100-hectare farm and vineyard, which also produces all the vegetables masterfully served with the food The store and restaurant have been around for only a few decades, but the working farm has been the work of love of nearly a century, work in progress that will soon add a full-blown Churrasqueria adjoining the general store. If you want to take your love for a walk in the vineyards followed by a romantic and meditative swing, there is no better place than under the trellis of plants and flowers marinated in birdsong and bougainvillea blossoms that stands as a sentinel along the corner of the veranda. The walk on the soft, fallen petals will leave you with saudades for the return of laughter and play. In all, it is a short trip from the city, one that would have you enjoying this island of grape- and country-themed respite from the monotony of the district. After searching for some time for a repair company, I came across Brasilia Coffee and I had the machine repaired there. The service was great (and since the technician knew I didn't speak Portuguese and was from South Africa, he translated the messages on WhatsApp to Afrikaans for me), the quality of work is great. We have an old Morphy Richards machine, which is no longer in production and was not sold on Brazil. It was no issue. The business is situated as per the map, but you must go down the stairs to the lower level of the building. It looks dodgy at first, but the shop is nice and not dodgy in the least. I would very happily recommend them to anyone who has a coffee or an espresso machine that needs servicing or repairing. They also repair Nespresso machines and have their own brand of coffee and sell a range of high end Coffee machines and other equipment. They definitely get 5 stars from me, and I would've given them 10 if I could. I've never been a fan of all-inclusive resorts until I was gifted with nephews, and maybe most of the people without kids in their life will not understand it either. This is an all-inclusive resort within a short driving distance, about 1h30 drive from Brasilia. It features a water park, panoramic swimming pools, huge buffet-style restaurants, sports bar, pool bar, SPA and perhaps the most important feature to all guardians of little devils: supervised activities for children! Oh, and there's also a huge convention center in the complex, but who cares... The resort was opened in 2020 and is still under construction but they've taken measures to minimize the visual or audible noise. I must mention something that really bothers me in this all-inclusive resort: isn't really all-inclusive. Drinks of any kind are not included. That would be okay if they didn't try to sell me a half liter bottle of water for f*** 5 reais. I've considered drinking tap water but I didn't knew what kind of treatment they use and in the end I found two sources of "free" drinking water: one is during the breakfast and the other is on the baby food prep center, in the 1st floor of the apartment buildings, near the elevators. All things considered it was a nice weekend trip. Waterfalls North of Brasilia Document Document Document Document Around Brasilia Free +55 61 99996-1601 7 Days a Week Swimming, Day Trips, Hiking < Search All Button Recommendation from Sebastian Wolff on the B4D Forum: Many residents of Brasilia head straight out to Alto Paraiso or Pirinopolis if they think of beautiful waterfalls. And don't get me wrong, both places are very worth a visit. But you don't need to get that far for a nice hike and a refreshing bath in a beautiful tropical waterfall. There are options around (and even within the city limits) of Brasilia. A nice area with many waterfalls is right north of the National Park of Brasilia. It is fairly easy to go there - although with some kilometers of dirt roads to pass - and guides and restaurants are in place. For starters I have two recommendations. If you like a guided tour with meals included you should ask at the Chapada Imperial. They offer two or three different trails with more than 10 waterfalls and some nice canyons. It is possible to stay for the night in very simple but also lovely chalets. If you like it unguided and are in the moot for a little adventure you can drive to the Poço Azul (blue pool) stationary. They've got two trails - one super easy - with up to four waterfalls to visit and of course take a bath in. The place can get a little crowdy on Sundays and public holidays. Bisnau Rural Ecotourism Document Document Document Document Around Brasilia $$$ +55 61 99966-9118 7 Days a Week Portuguese Adventure Activities, Historical Rock Carvings, Trekking < Search All Button Recommendation via Submit Recommendation: Bisnau Rural Ecotourism is located about 120 km from the center of Brasilia and is an incredible destination for nature lovers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. From Brasilia you head towards Formosa and when you pass through the city it is another 42km until you turn right and follow the signs towards Cachoeira do Bisnau. This is important as you must check in at the reception to pay the entry fee and receive all the information you need before you can enter the all the different sites. All up there are 9 attractions in the area. The Bisnau archaeological site is protected area within a private farm and consist of a rock formation of about 3000 square meters that contains rock carvings that are estimated to be between 9500 – 12000 years old. Nobody really knows what they are all about, but one theory is that they petroglyphs contacts with aliens from other planets. Some scholars say that these are the oldest in the world. To get there from the receptionit is a 10km round trip by car on dirt roads and a 150m easy walk. One of the highlights of my trip was the hike to Cachoeira do Bisnau, a stunning waterfall located a short distance from the site. The waterfall is 110 meter high and the hike to get there was challenging but worth it and I was blown away by the beauty of the waterfall. Of course, you can swill on the bottom of the waterfall and take a natural water massage. To get there it is a 1km drive from the reception and a very challenging 400 meters through steep rocky terrain with ropes to help with the hike. The Onça Trail is another incredible adventure through some stunning landscapes of the Cerrado. But be warned, it is a 4km hike through the Bisnau forest and the terrain can be very challenging, and it requires some fitness. At the end of the trail, you will enter Poços Verdes with its incredible green water. If you don’t want to walk back, you can arrange a pickup at the end point with the reception. As I mentioned before, there are 9 attractions to visit, so it is impossible to do it all in one day. If you want to stay longer, the place offers a small hostel and a camping ground near the reception. They also offer a stay at Casa Pouso do Engenho, a very basic facility that can house up to 8 people. It is important to note that you must pay everything by cash, there is no internet in the area, no restaurants or coffeeshops and if you want to stay at Casa Pouso do Engenho you have to supply your own bed and bath linen. So if you are a more adventures type, Bisnau Rural Ecotourism is the place for you to visit and enjoy the beauty of the Cerrado and some historical sites. When I was brand-new to Brasilia I did a group tour of Brasilia. This is a really great tour - you'll learn not only the layout of the city and the history of why it's been done that way, but also get to see all the big monuments and best architecture. I would really recommend this tour if you have family or friends visiting. You'll learn so much about the city, and your guests will feel like they actually know the city. I recommend this product. The team was fantastic - they were professional, efficient, friendly and patient! They took great care in packing and securing all of my belongings, and even went above and beyond to collect a few items that I had forgotten. Paulo Woolny, the owner of the company, was also incredibly helpful throughout the process. He provided transparent and accurate quotes upfront, so there were no surprises when it came to the cost of my move. He also kept me informed every step of the way, which really put my mind at ease. He is always willing to please you if he can and if something is under his control. When my removal reached Italy, their Italian counterparts were just as efficient and careful. All my belongings arrived in time and in perfect condition, which was great. Overall, I cannot recommend AAA Moving & Relocations LLC highly enough. They truly are experts in their field, and they made what could have been a very stressful experience into a pleasant and easy one. My son is still talking about it two years later. I recommend this product.
